EXHIBITION 1 : Nano Aoshima

INTERVIEW:
LCFを２０１１に卒業し、ロンドンを拠点としている日本人のデザイナー。
着心地がいいということを重視しデザインされた彼女の卒業コレクションは、スポーツやストリートウェア／日本の木彫りからのインスピレーションをうけている。その洋風と和風を合わしたデザインから、男の子のような強さと、魅力のある女の子らしさも合わせ持ったデザインになっている。身体を大げさにさらさず隠されることで、ボディー本質のエクステンションのようなエレガンスさが表れている。
なぜスェット生地？
スェットには特に決まった性別、時代性がなく、男女ともに一日、または一週間のどこかでは心地よさのために着る。スェットはカジュアルな生地だけど、それを使って作る事で、逆に洗練されたものや、男らしさの強調、違った女の子らしさを作り出せると思う。
なぜロンドン？
制作する基準や、創造性の基準がとても高くて、チャレンジできるから。
大変だけど、その分刺激されるし学べる事がたくさんある。
なぜPrimitiveに置くの？
オーナーの二人がとっても好き。それにPrimitiveで扱っているデザイナーの作品もその人たちも。すごく素敵な人たちだと思う。彼らがファッションに対して持っている考えにも共感を持てるし、すごく素晴らしいと思う。

Inspired by sports- and street-wear: movement, youth and comfort is key to NANO AOSHIMA’s work. Tokyo born, but since the age of thirteen she has been living between England and Japan. Her S/S 12 womenswear collection takes an innovative approach to sweatshirt – decorated with twisted tassel fringing likened to the lines of Japanese woodprint. Covering the body instead of exposing it, her clothes are an extension to the body that enhances the form and provides an elegant presence. This season also welcomes her first menswear/unisex pieces. With an admiration for Japanese fashion and the Western designers for pioneering the concept of fashion, she finds great inspiration from the two cities she calls home – Tokyo and London.
• Why sweatshirt fabric?
There is no identified gender or age for sweatshirt, both female and male put on sweatshirts at some point of the day or week for comfort. It is a casual fabric but I think by working with it, some interesting effects can be born through it such as sophistication, exaggerated masculinity, creating different feels and tastes of femininity.
• Why London?
It’s competitive, has a high standard of creativity, it’s challenging, and it’s stressful but exciting, there’s lots to take in.
• Why do you stock at Primitive?
I love the owners. They are truly amazing people. I also like the designers that they stock – both their work and personalities. I also like Primitive’s complex ideas and beliefs towards Fashion. I really admire that.
