今回Changefashion.netでは、Daisuke Uedaをモデルにフィーチャーしたルックブックの撮影に潜入した「Behind the Scenes」フィルムとコレクションの詳細を聞いたデザイナーのインタビューをエクスクルーシブで公開。

―昨年6月のLCFの卒業ショーで発表して、その後Candyで取り扱われることになったファーストコレクションの後、今回のセカンドコレクションに向けレーベルを成長させるためにどのように時間を使ってきましたか？
去年は多くの時間をこのコレクションのデザイン・ディレクションのリサーチと作業に費やしてきたよ。新しいテキスタイルのエリアも研究して学んだね。それに、タイペイのテクニカル・ファブリックの会社で数ヶ月働いたり、Charlie Le MinduとコラボレートしてSS12コレクションのメンズウェアを手がけたりしたよ。
―今回のコレクションの大きなインスピレーションの一つになったのが、高見広春のセンセーショナルな小説「バトル・ロワイアル」で、コレクションは「Stand and Deliver」というタイトルでスクール・ユニフォームのコードがフィーチャーされています。どのようにしてそのようなインスピレーションを得たのですか？
以前からこの映画は大好きだったのだけど、最近本も読んで、キッズ達にとってユニフォームが空白のキャンパスであって、キッズ達が反抗的になるにつれていかにディコンストラクションされていくのかというところが好きなんだ。ストーリー中での権力との戦いの示し方も好きだし、それこそがスクール・ユニフォームに反抗的でクリエイティブな側面を呼び起こさせる何かなのだと思う。最終的にキッズ達はDIYなストラップやファブリックを武器の固定に使ったりして、体に機能性を備えたりしていたね。
―前回のコレクションと同じく思春期性やティーネイジ・スピリットも非常に強く感じられるのですが、今回はダブルブレストのジャケットなどのクラシカルなピースや機能面への配慮も見られて、より洗練されているように思えます。どのようなアイデアがこのような進展をもたらせたのですか？
そう、まずデザインに機能性を共存させたかったんだ。それにテーラリングだって若者っぽくなりえるしストリートで着れるんだということを証明したかった。僕は毎シーズン必ずある特定のイメージのルックをデザインするのだけれど、今回の場合は無頓着なスクールキッズのアティテュードで服を着るといことだったんだ。ロンドンでショート丈のスクールジャケットを着ている人であっても、秋葉原で偽物の制服を着てくつろいでいる人でもね。僕にとって、スクール・ユニフォームはすごく強い感情を呼び起こすものなんだ。
―ルックブックでは最高にクールな日本人モデル、Daisuke Uedaをフィーチャーしています。彼をモデルに選んだ理由は何だったのでしょうか？あと実際に撮影してみてどうでしたか？
Daisukeの作品はいろいろと見ていたし、彼の見た目だけでなく、エナジーやパーソナリティも今回の服とうまくマッチすると思ったんだ。もちろん彼は最高のモデルだったしすごくプロフェッショナルだったよ。

-How did you spend your time to develop your label for this 2nd collection after the first collection, which was published in LCF graduate show last June and bought by Candy in Tokyo?
A: Last year, I spent a lot of time researching and working on the design direction of this collection. I also learned and explored new areas in textiles which I wanted to apply to the new work. Last year,
I worked for a technical fabrics company in Taipei for a couple months as well as collaborating with Charlie LeMindu on an SS 2012 menswear collection.
-One of the main inspirations for this collection is Koshun Takami’s sensational novel ‘Battle Royale’, and the collection is titled ‘Stand and Deliver’, featuring the codes of school uniforms. How did you get
inspired by it?
A: I´ve always loved the film and just read the book recently. I really liked how the kids´uniforms began as a blank canvas and later began deconstructing as they started to rebel. I love how the story shows a constant battle with authority, and that is something which I think school uniforms can evoke- this rebellious, creative side. The kids ended up using DIY straps and fabrics to hold their weapons etc, bringing a functional quality to their body.
-Although there is the overwhelming mood of adolescence and teenage spirits like last collection, this collection looks more sophisticated and features some classical pieces such as double-breasted jackets, and also we can see a concern about functional aspects. What is your idea behind those developments?
A: Yes, I wanted functional elements to co-exhist with design.I think also, i wanted a challenge and prove that tailoring can be youthful and still be worn on the street. I definately design for a certain look each season and this time it´s about wearing garments in that nonchalant school kid attitude. Whether it´s a guy in London wearing a cropped school jacket or a guy in Akihabara chilling in a fake school uniform. To me, the school uniform style can evoke very strong emotions.
-The lookbook features the supercool Japanese Model Daisuke Ueda. Why did you choose him as your model and how was the shoot with him?
A: I´m familiar with Daisuke´s work and thought that his energy and personality could work really well with the clothes, as well as his look. He is of course, an amazing model and very professional.
